Giant unveiled its new Road E+ Pro, a versatile drop-bar E-bike for road riding that allows performance-minded riders to tackle tough climbs and long rides with less effort.
Engineered with a responsive ALUXX SL aluminum frame and composite fork, plus a number of new technologies that make it more powerful and able to go longer distances on a single charge, the new Road E+ Pro delivers a fast, fun experience on the road.
At the heart of the new Road E+ Pro is its Hybrid Cycling Technology, a system that combines electric power with human power to produce a smart, natural and powerful E-bike riding experience. Its power is generated by the new SyncDrive Pro motor, which helps riders climb steep hills, hold higher speeds, and ride longer distances.
The motor delivers power based on a rider’s input and the chosen support mode. The Road E+ Pro features five support modes to choose from (Eco, Basic, Active, Sport, Power) and delivers a maximum support ratio of 360 percent. This means that, in Power mode, 100 percent of human torque input offers 360 percent pedal-assist power. It’s tuned to provide a quick and direct response to pedal input, delivering 80Nm of torque in less than 19 milliseconds.
The Road E+ Pro’s Smart Assist technology gauges pedaling input and the terrain being ridden to determine the precise amount of power needed for a smooth and natural pedaling feel. Tuned for road riding applications, it delivers pedaling assistance at high cadences up to 170 rpm—so the rider can experience full support whether they’re climbing, descending or riding on flat roads.
The new RideControl EVO display and control centermakes it easy to view riding data such as speed, distance, estimated range and battery capacity. This handlebar-mounted unit features aluminum casing that’s shockproof and durable, and it has a USB charging port. It can be updated wirelessly via Bluetooth, making it easy to stay current with the latest software.
Another major update with the latest Road E+ Pro is its battery system. The new integrated EnergyPak Smart compact battery contains 375Wh of energy. For extremely long rides you can equip it with the EnergyPak Plus Range Extender for an added 250Wh of battery power. The EnergyPak 6A Fast Charger rmakes charging quick, safe and efficient, and can charge to 80% in about 90 minutes.
The Road E+ Pro frame is constructed with ALUXX SL aluminum that’s engineered and produced in Giant’s industry-leading aluminum forging facility with optimized strength-to-weight ratios and proprietary production techniques. Up front, the bike features a lightweight composite fork, designed to absorb road shocks and vibrations. It also includes a D-Fuse seatpost, which features a D-shaped shaft that adds compliance in the rear of the bike to smooth out the ride and help reduce fatigue.
All Road E+ Pro models feature disc brakes for added stopping power and control, plus Giant WheelSystems and Tubeless Ready tires for a smooth ride quality, better rolling efficiency, and a reduced risk of tire punctures.
The 2020 Road E+ Pro range consists of two models: The Road E+ Pro 1 with a Shimano Ultegra drivetrain and the Road E+ Pro 2 with a Shimano 105 drivetrain. Availability varies by country.
